Meat compass

May we present to you: Leo, the Meatrix hero. You haven’t met him yet: then it is high time you discover for yourself what his special mission is:

This was the introduction part to an element completely new to any EUforIA event: meat being served for Friday's dinner! Quote from EUforIA’s charter:

“All EUforIA activities promote a conscious and responsible lifestyle. This way of life lies in things that may appear small but we believe to be crucial. For example, food, drinks and material needed for our activities are to be organic, fair trade and environmentally friendly.”

Fact is that we decided to make food a topic in itself with a tool called the MEAT COMPASS. This exercise consisted of several steps:

First, all the participants, facilitators and EUforIA staff filled out a short questionnaire about their eating habit and some issues related to meat consumption. Then, those results as well as some interesting facts, links and suggestions on how to take action and how to have a balanced meat reduced diet were presented on four colourful posters about:

  • Meat & Climate change

  • Meat & Resources

  • Meat & Health

  • Meat & Ethics

Did you know, for example, that “you save more water by not eating a pound of beef than you do by not showering for an entire year”?

Our intention was of course not to moralize but to motivate people to think about one of the most fundamental activities in life: eating. Because eating in a responsible way can be so much fun and delicious!
